HOOK, MEESTER, MEYER

Martha (Meester) Hook, 96, of Grundy Center, died from natural causes on Monday, August 30, 2004, at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital Long Term Care Unit in Grundy Center. Funeral services will be at 1:30 PM, Thursday, September 2 at Colfax Center Presbyterian Church, rural Holland, with Pastors Larry Hoop and Larry Doughan officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation is from 4:00-8:00 PM on Wednesday at Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center with the family present to greet friends from 6:00-8:00 PM.

Martha was born June 29, 1908 in rural Grundy County, daughter of Johannes H. and Memka (Meyer) Meester. Martha was a life long, faithful member of Colfax Center Presbyterian Church and attended rural schools in Colfax Township. She married Harm G. Hook on February 14, 1929. They lived on, owned and operated a century farm in the Holland area and later retired to Holland where she enjoyed her family and friends. She was an excellent cook with pies as her specialty. She made several quilts for each of her five grandchildren, and crocheted many lovely items for family and friends. She enjoyed traveling and puzzle books. Always a hard worker, she was a willing helper with many projects. She had lived at the Presbyterian Village in Ackley for two years, than moved to the Long Term Care Unit at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center where she has lived for two and one half years.

Surviving are children, Phyllis Pies of Conrad, Roger (Nancy) Hook of Grundy Center, and Marcella (Robert) Knaack of Gladbrook; five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, Connie Pies (Alan) Lovelady, Susanne Hook (Mike) Carney and their children Mckenzie, Sierra, and Drake, David (Shelly) Hook and children Travis and Blake, Linda Knaack (Robert) Brockney and children Ryan and Rachel, Gary (Vicki) Knaack and children Austin and Logan; and sisters-in-law, Tilda of Aplington, Effie of Grundy Center, and Leola of Holland.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harm on February 26, 1982, sisters, Rachel Junker, Mattie Stahl, Tena Klunder, Harmka Stahl, Grace Bowman, and Esther Riekena Eckhoff, two infant sisters; and son-in-law, Gerald Pies.
