Last Rites Held For Abel Volders
Funeral services were held on Friday afternoon, Dec. 31, at 1:30 p.m. at the Doyen Funeral Home for Abel Volders who passed away around 12:15 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29, at the Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo due to an apparent heart attack. Rev. William Wolbrink of Ackley was the officiating clergyman. Mrs. Douglas Geerdes and Mrs. Robert Valentine sang one selection. Miss Marcella Neessen was organist. Pall bearers were Harold O. Fischer, Martin W. Ross, Sam Boekhoff, Herman Stahl, Marvin Stahl and Eilert Walters. Interment was made in Shiloh Cemetery at Wellsburg.
Mr. Volders had entered the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center on Dec. 17th for treatment and was then transferred to the Waterloo hospital on Dec. 21st for further treatment. He reached the age of 80 years, 4 months and 11 days.
He was born in The Netherlands on August 18, 1891. He attended the various schools in the area. As a young man he came to America where he settled in Grundy county near Wellsburg. He worked as a farm hand for Jake Peters for over 33 years. Several years ago he retired and moved to his home in Wellsburg.
Mr. Volders was preceded by several brothers and sisters.
He is survived by several brothers and sisters all living in the Netherlands.
