ULFERS, Kenneth 1928-2009

Kenneth Ulfers, age 81, of Ackley, died on Tuesday, December 1, 2009 at the Maple Manor Village in Aplington. Services will be 1:00 P.M. Sunday at the Sietsema Funeral Home in Ackley with inurnment in the Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour before services at the Sietsema Funeral Home in Ackley.

Kenneth Leonard Ulfers, son of Clarence and Ellen (Miller) Ulfers, was born February 3, 1928, at the home farm east of Ackley. He was baptized at St. John's Evangelical and Reformed Church and later became a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Ackley. Kenneth attended country school at Grundy County German Township #2. He graduated from Ackley High School in 1945. After graduation, Kenneth helped his father at home and also worked for other farmers in the area. Kenneth entered the U. S. Army on January 11, 1951, and was honorably discharged on January 17, 1953. He served during the Korean War as a lineman/electrician. After returning home from the service, he worked for Lennox Industries in Marshalltown before becoming a self-employed handyman doing plumbing and electrical work.

He is survived by his sister Viola (Edward) Geerdes of Ackley; nephew Gregory (Gloria) Geerdes, Marcus Iowa; nieces Elaine (Jerry) Remhof, Urbandale Iowa and Vivian Geerdes, West Des Moines Iowa; great nieces Gina (Cam) Rassel, Marcus Iowa, Gwen (Jay) Mathahs, Thompson Iowa, Melissa Remhof (Sam Saluri), Urbandale Iowa; and great-great nephews and a great-great niece.
