Arlene E. Kinsinger, 86, of Grundy Center, Iowa, died Wednesday January 7, 2009, at Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center, Iowa. Funeral Services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, January 10, 2009, at the United Methodist Church in Grundy Center, Iowa, with Pastor Matt Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Grundy Center. Visitation will be on Friday - January 9, 2009 from 6 pm until 8 pm with the family greeting friends at that time at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center. Visitation will also be on Saturday from 9 AM until 11 AM at the United Methodist Church. A memorial fund has been established.

Arlene was born March 9, 1922 near Buckingham, Iowa the daughter of Floyd E. and Mabel E. (Dawson) Marken. Arlene graduated from Grundy Center High School in 1939 as the valedictorian of her class. She then graduated from Iowa State Teacher's College in Cedar Falls in 1941. Arlene taught in several country schools. On June 1, 1942 she was united in marriage to Vernon W. Kinsinger in Morrison, Iowa. They farmed near Williams, Iowa until they moved in 1943 to a farm near Eldora. Only farming there for 1 year they moved again to a farm southeast of Grundy Center in 1944. The couple farmed there until 1960 when they bought their present farm. Arlene took a very active role in the farming operations. She raised chickens, and had vegetable and flower gardens. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Grundy Center where she was a Sunday school teacher and a member of the Women's Circle. She served on the Extension Council, Grundy County Fair Board, the Palermo Women's Club, the Garden Club, and the Farm Bureau Women's Club.

She is survived by her three daughters: Judy and her husband Charles L. Obrecht of Harlan, Iowa, Bonnie and her husband William J. McHugh of Elkader, Iowa, and Linda and her husband Franklin Bennett of Grundy Center, Iowa; 6 grandchildren: Donald and his wife Jennifer Obrecht of Harlan, Iowa, Charles W. and his wife Renietta Obrecht of Harlan, Iowa, Chanda McHugh of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Karisa and her husband Nehru Cheddie of Ankeny, Iowa, Turner and his wife Belynda Bennett of Shakopee, Minnesota, and Amy Bennett of Grundy Center, Iowa; 13 great grandchildren, a sister-in-law: Elaine Marken of Grundy Center, Iowa, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Vernon; grandson: Greg Obrecht; and a brother: Ralph Marken.
