Death of Mrs. A. M. Whaylen

Reinbeck Courier: After suffering poor health for the past four years Mrs. Andrew Whalen passed peacefully away at her home east of town about 11 o'clock Sabbath forenoon, Jan. 26th, 1908. Early that morning she had another stroke of paralysis and she only survived a few hours.

The funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the home and were largely attended by friends and neighbors, including many friends from Reinbeck, Hudson, Waterloo, and elsewhere. Rev. L. Tinning of the United Presbyterian church of this city, officiated.

Interment was in the family lot in the Lincoln cemetery.

Adelia Whitney was born October 20, 1857, in Black Hawk township, Grundy county. Her entire life was spent in Grundy county, her home having never been more than one and one-half miles from her birthplace. About ten years of her public life was spent in teaching in the public schools. On August 23, 1880 she was married to A. M. Whaylen, who until his marriage resided in Lincoln township, Black Hawk county. Two children gladdened their home, one of which died at the age of thirteen months, and the other son, Cressy, aged ten years, is left with the father. Beside the husband and son, the only immediate surviving relative of Mrs. Whaylen is Mrs. C. E. Burgoon, of Reinbeck, who is a sister.
