Farmer Breaks Neck

Ben Ruter Falls from Load of Oats and is Killed.

Ben Ruter, a farmer about seventy-five years old, fell from a load of oats at his home 3 miles southwest of Wellsburg Wednesday afternoon and was dead a few minutes thereafter when found. He was shoveling oats from a wagon into the granary and was standing in the rear end of the wagon. The horses moved forward without the old gentleman's knowledge and he fell backward from the wagon and struck with his head on the ground and broke his neck.

Mr. Ruter was one of Grundy county pioneers. He was known by nearly everyone in northwest Grundy and was highly thought of.
