Funeral Services Held Wednesday For Sara Maas

Funeral services for Mrs. Sara Maas, 74, were held today (Wednesday) at 12:30 p.m. at Doyens Funeral home and at 1:00 p.m. at the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, northeast of Wellsburg. Burial was in the cemetery adjoining the church. Rev. Peter Larson was officiating clergyman.

Mrs. Maas died Sunday afternoon at the Allen Memorial hospital in Waterloo from complications following surgery.

Music was furnished by St. Paul's Church choir with Mrs. Frank Meyeraan, Jr. as organist. The flower attendants were Mrs. Reka Gronewold and Mrs. Tyle Huisman. Pallbearers were Wendell Anders, Robert Tjaden, Gordon Tjaden, Frank Cervetti, Lavern Van Heiden and Neil Okones, Jr.

Mrs. Maas was born on December 22, 1887, to Mr. and Mrs. Heinrich Olthoff in Shiloh township, Grundy County, Iowa.

She received her education in a rural school in Grundy County. On December 6, 1905, she married Harry Maas. This union was blessed with one son and eight daughters. They made their home on a farm near Wellsburg. Since 1945 she has made her home in Wellsburg.

Mrs. Maas was baptized at the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church on March 17, 1888. She was a communing member of St. Paul's church. Mrs. Maas was an active member and had a life membership of the United Lutheran Church Women, an auxiliary of the church.

Survivors include seven daughters and one son: Marie (Mrs. Leonard) Schmidt, Henry Maas, Jennie (Mrs. Lee) Etjen, Mabel (Mrs. Conrad) Weichers, and Wyone (Mrs. Willard) Ross all of Wellsburg; Florence (Mrs. John O.) Tjaden of Waterloo, Lillian (Mrs. J. G.) Cervetti of Steamboat Rock, Harriet (Mrs. John) Burns of Iowa Falls; 19 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; one brother, Heinie Olthoff; and three sisters, Mrs. Anton Venenga, Mrs. Tena Buskohl of Leaf River, Illinois, and Mrs. Harry Knock of Parkersburg.

Mrs. Maas was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a brother and sister; one infant daughter, and a great grandson.
