Hemmo Deters, 81, Dies At Ia. Falls Home
Hemmo Deters passed away early Saturday morning, February 20, 1982, at his home in Iowa Falls, due to an internal hemorrhage. He reached the age of 81 years, 2 months and 18 days.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, February 23, at 1:30 p.m. at the First Christian Reformed Church, west of Wellsburg. Rev. John Gorter officiated. Music was furnished by The Messengers, Richard Schafer, Lary Riebkes, Melvin Haupt and Arnold Eiten. Mrs. LuRay Meyer was accompanist. Miss Elizabeth Eekhoff was organist. Pallbearers were Rodney Deters, Ronald Deters, Wallace Deters, Arnold Nederhoff, Donald Geerdes and Dale Geerdes. Burial was in the First Christian Reformed Church cemetery. Doyen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Hemmo was born on a farm in German Township, northwest of Wellsburg on December 2, 1900, the son of Hemmo and Grietje (VanDeest) Deters, and attended the rural school in the area. He later attended the Grundy College in Grundy Center.
He farmed for many years in German Township and later moved to Wellsburg with his sister Bertha to make his home. For the last 10 years he had made his home on an acreage southeast of Iowa Falls and had lived in Iowa Falls during the winter months.
He was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church of Wellsburg for many years.
Preceding him in death were: his parents, his twin brother, Thomas, in infancy; another brother in infancy; 2 brothers, Adolph and Thomas Deters, 2 sisters in infancy; and 1 sister, Bertha Deters.
Survivors include: two sisters and one brother, William Deters of Eldora; Mrs. Gepka Nederhoff of Wellsburg; Mrs. Harm (Martha) Kurtzleben of Britt, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.
