Bertha Deters, 67, Dies Sunday After A Lingering Illness

Funeral services for Bertha Deters were held Wednesday afternoon, Feb 2 at 12:30 p.m. at the Doyen Funeral home and at 1:00 p.m. at the First Christian Ref. church. Rev. Kasjen Tebben was officiating clergyman.

Music was given by a men's duet, Claus G. Primus and Arnold Eiten. Miss Elizabeth Eekhoff was organist. Flower attendants were Mrs. Ted Van Deest and Mrs. Bert Riebkes. Pall bearers were Rodney Deters, Ronald Deters, Wallace Deters, Arnold Nederhoff, Donald Geerdes and Dale Geerdes.

Interment was made in the First Christian Ref. church cemetery.

Bertha Deters, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hemmo Deters, was born on a farm in German township on December 15, 1898. In her youth she attended the rural school in the area. She reached the age of 67 years, one month, and 15 days.

She was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church. In 1957, she moved from the farm to Wellsburg. In 1964, she and her brother moved to a farm west of Ackley.

In September of 1965 she had major surgery at the Allen Memorial hospital in Waterloo. After leaving the hospital on October 2nd, she stayed at the home of her sister, Mrs. Peter H. Nederhoff, where she passed away around 6 a.m. after a lingering illness.

Those who preceded her in death were her parents, three brothers and two sisters.

Those left to mourn her passing are three brothers, Adolph Deters of Wellsburg; Hemmo Deters of Ackley; William Deters of Eldora; two sisters, (Gepka), Mrs. Peter H. Nederhoff of Wellsburg; (Martha) Mrs. Jake A. Geerdes of Wellsburg; six nephews and three nieces.
