Varina DesMarias, M.D., of Grundy Center died December 8, 2009, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo. Private graveside services will be conducted at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the Grundy County Memorial Hospital Foundation or the Grundy Center Community School Foundation c/o P. O. Box 95, Grundy Center, IA 50638.

She was born in Grundy Center on September 12, 1915, to John Cowie DesMarias and Maud Lillian Bayless DesMarias. She graduated from Grundy Center High School with the class of 1933, and from the University of Iowa College of Medicine in 1940. She practiced medicine in Grundy Center until her retirement in 1991.

She is survived by one sister, Lillian DesMarias of Chillicothe, Mo., currently residing in the Grundy Care Center, Grundy Center.
