Mrs. Oldig Nederhoff, nee Grietje Meester, was born the 13th of July, 1851, at Manslagt, Ostfriesland, Germany, and died the 28th of April in Wellsburg, Iowa. She reached therefore the age of 72 years, 9 mo. and 15 days. She migrated to America in the year 1863 and first lived in Illinois, and afterwards settled in Shiloh township. The 16th of February, 1871, she was married to Oldig Nederhoff. This union was blessed with eleven children, one of whom died in infancy and Daniel in Camp Dodge the 24th of May, 1918, and Henry passed away the 10th of January, 1922. Those living are Mrs. R. Sietsema, Renville, Minn.,; Carl, Johannes, Mrs. O. Haupt, Mrs. H. Bunger, Mrs. M. Bunger, Oldig, and Mrs. W. Meyer. Her husband died the 8th of November, 1911.
She was grandmother to 48 children and great-grandmother to 14 children. Besides these she leaves to mourn four brothers, Daniel, Harm, Hendrik and Jacob Meester. Before her departure she with her brothers had together an age of more than 400 years.
She was a member of the First Christian Reformed church of which her husband was an elder for many years.
The funeral took place last Friday, the 2nd of May. Rev. H. C. Bode spoke on Isaiah 57:2, "He shall enter into peace; they shall rest in their beds, each one walking in his uprightness." Which tells of the blessed death. They enter into peace. All that disturbs is left behind. Sin, trouble and tribulation are things of the past. The soul has departed in the haven of eternal peace and calm. The body rests in their beds. The grave has been sanctified by the Savior, who also once rested in a tomb. This is for the righteous only. Believing that the departed belonged to these, we do not mourn as those who have no hope.
