DesMarias, 81, Succumbs at Grundy Center

Grundy Center, Ia. — John C. Des Marias, 81, prominent in community affairs, and a resident of Grundy county 79 years, succumbed to a heart condition at his home here Wednesday afternoon.

He was a longtime secretary of the Farmers Cooperative Elevator Co. of Grundy Center, had been clerk of Palermo (Grundy Center) township for many years, was a charter member of the Grundy County Farm Bureau, and was active in the Methodist church here.

With the exception of a brief period as a bank employee, and as a school teacher, he had operated a farm all his life. He retired about five years ago.

Mr. Des Marias was born Apr. 4, 1868, near Pecatonica Illinois, and came with his parents to Grundy County in 1870. He married Maude Bayless in Kansas City, Mo., in 1906.

He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Stanley Linzell of Sarasota, Fla., and Dr. Varina Des Marias of Grundy Center.

Funeral services will be at 2:30 Friday at the Coffman funeral home. Burial will be in Grundy Center Cemetery.
