Mildred D. Weichers, 78, of Wellsburg, died January 11, at the Grundy Care Center in Grundy Center, from cancer, while under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice. Funeral services were January 14, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, rural Wellsburg. Burial was at the church cemetery. A memorial fund has been established.

Mildred Darlene Weichers was born January 10, 1927, in Wellsburg, the daughter of Dick and Malena (Molendorp) Weichers. Mildred received her education in a rural country school in Grundy County. She helped her parents with their farming operation at Dike until they retired in January 1952 and moved with them to Wellsburg. Mildred worked at the Wellsburg Herald for six years, Eckhoff Cafe for seven years, and the Spokesman Press in Grundy Center for 30 years, retiring in 1995. After her retirement she helped out part-time at Wayne Blythe's Farm Bureau Insurance office in Wellsburg.

Mildred had been a long-time member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

She is survived by two sisters, Nettie Huisman of Ackley and Edna Kreb of Cedar Falls; three sisters-in-law, Mabel Weichers of Grundy Center, Esther Weichers of Waterloo and Lavine Weichers of Colorado; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, John, Conrad, Lester, Dale, and Harold Weichers; and four sisters, Anna Rindels, Grace Freese, Rena Huisman, and Leona Hopkins.
