Henry Haren Leaves To Make Home In Grundy Center
Henry Haren left Saturday to make his home with his niece, Mrs. L. Mathren, at Grundy Center. Henry is one of this town's landmarks. He has made his home here with the Itzen family during the past 33 years. Prior to that he lived on his farm three miles southwest of here. Henry is in his 83rd year. He never married. His mother kept house for him until the time of her death, after which he made his home with the H. Itzen family. Folks in this town will miss Henry. They all like him and they all regret that he left. He isn't far away and he will be back here often.
Henry was in the German army before he came to this country. He served with Germany in the Franco-Prussian war 60 years ago. He may be the only veteran of that war now living in the county. He remembers his war experience but never talks about it unless he is asked to.
