Replace School Leveled By Tornado At Buck Grove

Classes will open as usual at Buck Grove, whose school was demolished by a tornado last June 2.

Joe Newell, Melrose township farmer, who purchased the old Melrose school No. 1, several years ago, recently offered the building to the Buck Grove school board.

The building has been moved to the site of the former school and remodeled and redecorating is almost completed. Much of the equipment used next year will be taken from Washington No. 5, which closed last spring.

The Buck Grove school was being used as a voting center for the primary election when the tornado struck. Judges and clerks escaped by seconds, but the ballot box containing the votes cast that day, has never been recovered.

About 20 pupils are expected.
