Frances Doeden To Celebrate 100th Birthday

Frances Doeden is celebrating her 100th birthday Wednesday, April 21.

Currently a resident at LTC, Frances was born April 21, 1899, Frances Henrietta Siemsen in Odebolt. She was the second of six children born to Rev. Dirk and Mrs. Margaret Siemsen.

At nine years of age she moved to the parsonage at Pleasant Valley Reformed Church where her father was pastor for 28 years.

March 10, 1921, she became the bride of Henry George Doeden of Parkersburg. They resided in the farm community around Parkersburg and Dike, finally returning to Fern, near Holland.

She was a member of the Pleasant Valley Church from nine years of age to the present, 91 years.

Her sewing skills were known far and wide as she created fashionable garments for young and old. There was no limit to her compassion or her hospitality.

She is the devoted mother of three children: Mrs. Margaret Lawless of Hilton Head, SC; Gerald Doeden of Hemet, CA; and Rev. Dick Doeden of Grand Rapids, MI. There are 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Her birthday will be celebrated with several special occasions this week.
