MOREHEAD

Funeral services were held Monday, March 28, from First United Methodist Church in Jefferson for William Phillip "Bill" Morehead, 66, Jefferson businessman and lifetime resident.

The Rev. Donald Frank officiated. Mrs. Marc McGinn was soloist, with Mrs. Lee Sloan as organist. Honorary casket bearers were Howard Ryerson, Don Culver, Harold Mears, Ken Baker, Vince Phillips and Walter Ramaekers.

Casket Bears were Dell Bauer, Walter Stidwell, Don Knapper, Don Wyckoff, Frank Tucker and Charles Schultz. Interment was in Jefferson Cemetery.

William P. Morehead the son of Frank and Amy Fortin Morehead, was born Sept. 6, 1916, at Jefferson. He passed away March 24 at the Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson.

Bill attended school in Jefferson and following his schooling worked at various jobs. On Aug. 31, 1938, William Morehead was united in marriage to Vesper E. Green at Boone. To this union was born one son, Dennis of Jefferson.

After their marriage Bill was employed in construction for many years. In 1949 he went to work for the Boulcott Ford Motor Company as a service operator. Bill worked his way from service operator to salesman and finally to manager of the dealership.

Bill received the Buick dealership in 1954, and started the Morehead Motor Company where the present United Federal Savings Building is located. Following a fire in 1956 he relocated his business where presently Wilson's Trading Post is located, and in 1979 moved to the present Morehead Motor Company site.

Mr. Morehead was a member of First United Methodist Church in Jefferson. He was also a member of Jefferson Elks Lodge No. 2306, the Greene County Golf and Country Club, Jefferson Chamber of Commerce, Iowa Automobile Dealers' Assn. and the National Automobile Dealers Assn.

Survivors include his wife, son; daughter in law Sandy; and three grandchildren, Wm. D. Morehead of Jefferson, Debra K. Murphy of Erlensee, Germany, and Troy D. Morehead of Jefferson.
