July 12, 1906 - Jefferson Bee - Life of Henry R Myers - A Pioneer Citizen, Loyal and True to Every Trust - Henry R. Myers was born in Ulrichsville, Tuscarawas county, Ohio, January 31, 1839, where he lived until 1853 when he moved with his parents to Henry county, Illinois. They lived there until 1856 when they moved to near Old Rippey and resided there until after the war.

After returning from the war he with his brothers and father moved to the mill site south of town where they established what for several years was known as Myers' Mill, south of Jefferson. After they sold the mill in 1873, Mr. Myers bought the farm south of the Panora bridge, which he has owned and managed ever since. With his family he moved to Jefferson last fall, having purchased the Allen Cook house on Harrison street. He died July 1, 1906, of Bright's disease. The funeral was held at the Methodist church Tuesday afternoon, conducted by the pastor, Rev. ReQua, and the interment made in the Jefferson cemetary.

Henry Myers was married to Mary C. Myers October 12, 1883, and leaves a wife, two nephews and four nieces to mourn his death.

Mr. Myers army record was one to be proud of. He enlisted in August, 1861 in Company H, Tenth Iowa and served until February, 1865, participating in the battles of Champion Hills, Iaka, Vicksburg, Chattanooga, Missionary Ridge, the Atlanta campaign and Sherman's march to the sea. He was a gallant soldier and served his country faithfully.

Mr. Myers was a successful farmer, a good citizen and man held in the highest esteem by neighbors and friends. His memory will long be cherished by those with whom he associated. The out of town relatives and friends who were to the funeral included Sherman Myers, of Moundville, Mo.; Philip Lock and wife, of Dakota City; Banyer Burk and wife and John Burk and wife, of near Rippey; Mrs. Maggie Myers and daughter, of near Scranton; and Rev. Hohenshelt of Cooper.

Mrs. Mary C. Myers and children desire to thank their many friends who so kindly assisted them during the illness and death of their beloved husband and uncle.
