Carmen Celesta, daughter of Andrew and Laura Garreans, was born Feb 18, 1906 At McPaul, Ia. She passed away Aug 1, 1971 at Grape Community hospital in Hamburg.

She recently retired from the Glenwood State Hospital School where she served 8 years. Since her retirement she has been actively enjoying her family and friends and garden. As a small child she was baptized in the Christian church in Bartlett, Ia. and continued lifetime attendance.

She also attended school at Bartlett and lived her entire life in Bartlett and surrounding area.

She was united in marriage to Fred R. Van Horn Jan 8, 1924. To this union was born daughter Dorothy and a son Donald.

She is survived by her children and by grandsons, Randall, Kendall and Brian Forney, Granddaughter Janet Bonnes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Van Horn of Farragut.

Also surviving is a great-grandson, Michael Dean, son of Mr. and Mrs. Randall Forney of Glenwood, Ia., and great-granddaughter Heather Marie Bonnes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Bonnes, Shenandoah. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one sister and two brothers. She had a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral services were Wednesday, Aug 4, 1971 at 2: p.m. at Peterson mortuary, Glenwood, by Rev. Donald Briley, organist, Mrs. Frank Dasher, duet “Going Down The Valley” sung by Mesdames Alex Christensen and Richard Karr.

Pallbearers were Dale Johnson, Allen Green, Alva Aubry. Max Bachler, Ralph Briley and Lynn Hough.
Flower bearers; Mesdames M. B. Lorimor, Dale Johnson, Robert Bailor, Merle Speed, Ralph Briley, Memorial Book, Sylvia Fitzpatrick.

Burial was in Thurman cemetery.
