Another Good Woman Answers Call

Cora Mapes, daughter of Julia Ann and J. W. Mapes, was born in Atchison County, Missouri, near Phelps City, on Oct. 18, 1869. She entered the land of Eternity from her home May 13, 1944.

About the age of ten she moved with her parents to Buchanan township where she grew to young womanhood. She was a member of the Lone Chapel church which she joined as a young girl. She was a loyal member of the church and a devoted Christian and for a number of years was organist at the Lone Chapel church.

She was united in marriage to Henry Gubser on Feb. 6, 1890, to which union were born two sons: Claude on the home farm near Hamburg, and Irvin of Hubbard, Ohio, teacher in the Sharon, Pa., public schools. She leaves to mourn her departure her husband, two sons and their wives, eight grandchildren and one great grandson; two brothers, James S. Athen and E. B. Mapes, both of near Hamburg, and one sister, Mrs. Mary Zuck.

She was a charter member of the Royal Neighbor lodge of Hamburg. She was instrumental in organizing the Lone Chapel Ladies' Aid, a worker in the Red Cross during the first World War, and a member of the W. C. T. U. of Hamburg. She was a loving wife, a devoted mother, and will be greatly missed, not only by her family but by many neighbors and friends.

Funeral services were held from the Methodist church on Tuesday, May 16, at 2 p.m. conducted by the Rev. Henry Teele, assisted by Rev. C. E. Riddington. Interment was made in the Mt. Olive cemetery.
