Angela Marie Wray, 36, a retired senior editor with the Agriculture Department, died of cancer Tuesday at George Washington University Hospital.

She has retired on disability in 1978 from the department's Economic Research Service where she had edited research manuscripts.

In 1975, Miss Wray received the department's Certificate of Merit for her editorial work on the widely distributed book, "The World Food Situation and Prospects to 1985." She also was the author of "Pen of Print," an editorial guidebook for agriculture economists.

Miss Wray was born in Hamburg, Iowa. She came to Washington in 1961 to work as an editor in the Department of Labor. In 1968-69, she studied economics and English at George Washington University and then joined the Agriculture Department. She lived in Washington.

She is survived by her mother, Marguerite C. Wray of Hamburg; two sisters, Sally W. Guth of Torrington, Wyo., and Rosemary W. Wihelm of Iowa City, and two brothers, Michael L., of Ralston, Neb., and Air Force Capt. L. Patrick of Grand Forks, N.D.
