Prominent Geneva Man Passed Away - Butson, John H.- a resident of Franklin County since 1881, died at his home at Geneva last Friday evening, Feb 08th - after a short illness. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Methodist Church in Geneva conducted by the pastor Rev McConkey, G.M., and burial was made in the Geneva Cemetery. Butson, John H. was born Aug 01 1851 at Platteville, Wis where he grew to manhood. He was married to Bratton, Priscilla Jane on Feb 14, 1877 and the same year they moved to Calhoun County, Iowa. Four years later they moved to Chapin where they resided until 1890, when they purchased a farm near Geneva and moved onto it. In 1912 they retired from active farm life and moved to Geneva, where they had since made their home. Mr Butson, was a member of the Methodist Church and had been active in its work. He was a charter member of the Geneva Modern Woodman of America, and had been a loyal supporter of that organization. The deceased is survived by his widow, three daughters, Luke, Mrs G. F. of Mellette, South Dak, Mohlford, Mrs A.G. of Geneva & Mrs, Hagen, Howard of Marshalltown and by three sons - Butson, J. J. of Hampton, Butson, Perl of Jackson, Minn & Butson, Percy S. of Geneva. He is also survived by two sisters - Benson, Mrs Elizabeth of Sedro Woolley, Wash & Smith, Mrs Eliza of Joliet, Montana. Three children - Butson, Frank, Butson, Grace and Butson, Thomas L. preceded his father in death.
