Esther Marian Rube, a graduate nurse was called in death at noon Monday after she had worked to save others but was unable to withstand the same battles herself.

Death was due to pneumonia superinduced by influenza with which she was attacked a week ago.

She was ill for two days before she was confined to her bed and in those two days she continued her life in an earnest endeavor to make life easier and happier for those she was trying to bring back to health.

Esther Marian Rube was born Feb. 12, 1886 at Waukesha, Wis. and died at her home at 127 West State Street in this city Monday noon, Jan. 13,1918.

She was a graduate of the Park Hospital School for nurses and had spent the last five years of her life here, first for three years as a student nurse and then as a registered and graduate nurse. She was graduated in her training in June of 1916.

Her parents are dead, but seven brothers and sisters remain to mourn her passing away. They are Orval Rube of Sheffield, David Rube of Alden, Charles Rube of Dougherty, Mrs Walter Hopes of Sheffield, Mrs. W.H. DeMoss of Mason City, Mrs Floyd Cronan of Hampton and Miss Maye Rube of Mason City.

Brief funeral services were conducted at the McAuley funeral home at 10:30 o'clock this morning in charge of Rev Kearns of the Presbyterian church.

The body was shipped to Shefield this afternoon and burial will be made in the Halltown Cemetery.

Miss Rube was known and loved by many in Mason City and her sudden death leaves a place that is hard to fill for though she had not lived long, she lived well.

Sickness had visited her often and time and again she had been confined to her bed and while her physician said he had been able to always get her up before with the aid of her own gracious and pleasing disposition the grim reaper had been the victor this time.
