Merle B. Butt, 86, of Hampton, Iowa, passed away Sunday, March 26, 2017, at Franklin Country View Nursing Facility in Hampton, Iowa.

He was born May 7, 1930, to Carl Herman and Irene (Buckalew) Butt in Robertson, Iowa. Merle grew up on a farm southwest of Hampton. He attended Hampton Community Schools in Hampton, Iowa. Merle was united in marriage to Delores Covell on August 5, 1951 in Chapin, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Army in the 551 truck transportation in Korea from 1951 to 1953. Merle worked for Welden's Reddy Mix for over 25 years, worked part-time for local farmers throughout his life, and assisted his children with their livestock. Merle was affiliated with the Hampton United Methodist Church. He was a member of the American Legion, American Wildlife Association, Beed's Lake Bowhunters and the American Rifle Association. Merle was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Merle is survived by his son Chuck (Sue) Butt of Hampton, grandchildren Tanya Butt-Hinrichs of Minneapolis, MN, James (Marina) Butt-McKenna of Buffalo, NY, Scott (Jess) Butt of Pine Island, MN, Chad (Heidi) Hanson of Hampton, Andrew Hanson of San Francisco, CA, and Steve Hanson of Hampton, great grandchildren Tryston McKenna of Garner and Maddox McKenna of Buffalo, NY, and Ally, Ashlyn, Avery, and Austin Hanson all of Hampton, sister Deanna Smith of Iowa Falls, twin brother Verle (Betty) Butt of Hampton, and brother-in-law Charles Covell, Sr. of Ossian.

He was preceded in death by his wife Delores, his parents, daughter Lynne, brothers Denny, Robert, and Larry, sister Delores, and an infant brother James.
