LaVern Plagge, 67, lifelong Latimer resident, died of a heart attack shortly after being taken to Franklin General Hospital in Hampton, on Friday morning, May 13, 1988. Funeral services were held on Tuesday morning at ten-thirty from the Immanuel United Church of Christ in Latimer. Rev. Donald Ellerman officiated and burial was in Marion Center Cemetery. The Willim Funeral Home of Latimer was in charge of the arrangements. Casket bearers were Ervin Muchlenbruck, Ervin Meyer, William Oltman, Paul Happel, Leonard Teggatz and Leonard Pralle. Born on May 27, 1920 near Latimer he was the son of Louis D. and Louise M. Immerman Plagge and received his education in the area country school. LaVern and Shirley Reinke were married on November 10, 1941 at Geneva. Two children blessed this union, Jerry and Joyce. After returning from a year and a half in the service they farmed northwest of Latimer for 31 years. They then moved to a farm nearer Latimer and farmed until a combine accident in 1978 caused him to retire. In the past years he had operated the Latimer Car Wash. The past 9 years the family has owned and operated Country Corners Antiques. LaVern was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ and was active on the church board and in youth and church school groups. Survivors include his wife, son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Jeanne of Latimer, daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Don Benes of Taipei, Taiwan, six grandchildren, Scott, Troy, Gabrielle and York Plagge and Kenton and Kyle Benes, two brothers, Herbert and Wayne of Latimer and two sisters, Mrs. Donald (Lorena) Koch of Latimer and Mrs. Donald (Elaine) Reinke of Geneva. His parents and a granddaughter preceded him in death.
