Alice G. Christensen, 91, Latimer, died Wednesday morning, June 18, 1997, at Franklin General hospital, Hampton.
Funeral services were held Saturday, June 21, at Immanual United Church of Christ in Latimer with Rev. Richard Zulauf officiating. Burial was in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, rural Hampton. Willim Funeral home, Latimer, was in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be given to Hospice of North Iowa.
Alice was born on a farm in Humbolt County on Oct. 12, 1905, the daughter of Lewis and Martha Rasmussen. She attended country school and graduated from Goldfield High School in 1923. For the next two years she went to Cornell College and then to the University of Iowa School of Nursing, where she graduated in 1929.
On Dec. 29, 1927, she and Ansgar M. Christensen were married in cedar Rapids. They lived in Latimer for a few years and in 1941, they moved to California.
She practiced nursing at Los Angeles General Hospital and later was head nurse in surgery, emergency room, and maternity at St. Joseph Hospital in Burbank, Calif. They retired and returned to Latimer. He died in 1982.
She was a member of Emmanuel United Church of Christ and the Womens Fellowship.
She is survived by a son, Chris of Latimer; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Howard Rasmussen of Clarion; and a sister, Madalyn Papot of Huntsville, Ala.
She is preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, and one sister.
