Andrew Ufford was born on August 8, 1836, in Oneida county, New York and died August 23, 1908, at his home near Dougherty, at the age of 72 years and 13 days.
When a young man Mr. Ufford came to Winnebago County, Ill., where he was united in marriage to Caroline Smith, June 11, 1861.
In June 1862, deceased enlisted in the 74th Illinois infantry, serving his country faithfully for three years. At the close of the war he returned to Illinois and engaged in farming. Later he moved to Fayette Co., Iowa, and thirty-seven years ago came to Franklin County, where he settled and remained during the rest of his life.
Six children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Ufford: Franklin A., of Doughterty; Alfred H. of Aurora, S.D.; Alfred H. of Rockwell; Ella M., who departed this life Feb. 28, 1886; Mrs. Henry Jordan and Chas. A. Ufford, both of Dougherty. Besides these he leaves to mourn his death, a wife, two sisters, three brothers, and a host of friends.
Always a kind husband and father, Andrew Ufford leaves on earth a record of a life well lived, deeds well done, and a career free from blot or blemish.
He died in a firm belief of the "golden rule:" "do unto others as you would be done by."
Funeral services were held at the house on Monday and the remains were interred in West Fork cemetery.
The family and relatives of the deceased have the sympathy of a multitude of friends in their bereavement.
