Geo. W. Hooker, a well known resident of Franklin County for about 40 years, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. C.C. Fitz, twelve miles west of Hampton, early last Tuesday morning after an illness of about a month. Mr. Hooker had been in poor health for sometime and during the last week he had been confined to his bed.

George William Hooker, son of Ebnezer and Almyra Hooker, was born in Wabash county, Indiana, April 3, 1856 and died April 28, 1931, at the age of 75 years and 25 days.

At the age of eleven months his parents moved to Illinois where his father died when he was about 3 years old. Following his father's death, two older brothers enlisted in the Union Army. The younger being drowned while he was crossing the river on a raft at Eastport, Tennessee, and the older dying from starvation the day after being released from Andersonville prison.

When he was 13 yeaers old his mother moved to Arkansas, but returned to Watseka, Ill. in a few years, and here Mr. Hooker grew to manhood. Later he went to Nebraska and took up a homestead.

He was married on July 27, 1884 at Kearney, Nebr., to Mrs. Mary McDowell Trindle. Then years later they moved to Franklin County, Iowa, and located on a farm northeast of Hampton.

Mr. Hooker was an industrious farmer and prudent manager, achieving considerable success in his vocation, which enabled him to retire and move to Hampton in the spring of 1918, where he had since made his home.

Mr. Hooker always took an active interest in community affairs and he was a real booster for the better things in life. For a number of years he served as town Marshal of Hampton and held several other positions of trust during his life. The deceased was a member of the Hampton Lodge, I.O.O.F. and had also been a member of the Masonic order for many years.

Mrs. Hooker preceded her husband in death on Feb. 8, 1924, and he is survived by six daughters: Mrs. Abe Voogd, Aplington; Mrs. C.C. Fitz, Alexander; Mrs. Geo. M. Wolf, Hampton; Mrs. H.R. Crom, Hampton; Mrs. Geo. Schinagel, Chapin; Mrs. T.C. Kaberle, Hampton and a step-daughter, Mrs. C.E. Shafer, Hampton; one sister, Mrs. Thena V. McLaughlin, Cambridge City, Indiana and seven grand-children.

The funeral services were conducted Thursday p.m. at 2:30, at the Methodist church by the pastor, Rev. J. Arthur Young and burial was made in the Hampton cemetery.
