Sheffield - Jerry Groen died at the Lutheran hospital in Hampton Saturday afternoon after a week's illness with lockjaw.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist church in Sheffield with the Rev. A.S. Grarup in charge. Burial will be made in Wayside cemetery, Chapin.
Jerry Groen was born Feb. 22, 1898, in Wener, Germany. At the age of 2 years he came with his parents to America, locating at Chapin. He was united in marriage to Ann Sprung Jan. 6, 1937, and they had since made their home on a farm 3 miles southeast of Sheffield.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his mother, Mrs. Herman Groen, Chapin; 2 sisters, Mrs. Elvin Boots, Dumont & Anna Groen, Tucson, Ariz.; 5 brothers, Fred of Hubbard, John of Tucson, Ariz., Englehart and Herman of Chapin, and Adolph, who is stationed with the army in Iceland.
The Wartnaby funeral home is in charge of arrangements.
