William John Day was born in Franklin County, Iowa, on May 12, 1885, the son of James and Mary Ann Day. He spent his boyhood in Iowa, receiving all his education there, with the exception of one year at a business school in Faribault.

In 1902 the Day family moved to Minnesota and lived on a farm, south of Brownsdale. On Aug. 31, 1910, Mr. Day was united in marriage with Miss Alice Tanner. The couple made their home on a farm east of Brownsdale until the fall of 1946, when they purchased a new home in Brownsdale. There they have since resided.

About a month ago, he was taken ill and on Saturday evening, Aug. 29, his condition became serious. He was moved to St. Olaf Hospital, where he underwent an emergency operation Sunday morning. He passed away very suddenly on Monday evening, Aug. 30.

He leaves to mourn his death, his wife, Alice; four sisters, Mrs. Polly Meyers, Mrs. Harriet Jacobsen, Mrs. Jane Freeman, all of Hampton, Iowa, and Mrs. Elizabeth Tucker, Brownsdale; three brothers, George of Faribault, Arthur and Charles of Brownsdale; many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Alice Hawke, Hampton, Iowa and Sarah Irons, Brownsdale.

The deceased was a member of the Methodist Church of Brownsdale. He also belonged to Lafayette Lodge A.F. & A.M. and Mizpah Chapter No. 36, OES. He will be remembered as a most devoted husband and brother, and a true friend and neighbor.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church in Brownsdale at 2 p.m. Thursday with the Rev. Alfred Andersen and the Rev. Oscar Smith officiating. Mrs. Forrest Playle, accompanied by Mrs. Florence Peet, sang two solos, "Someday We'll Understand" and "Good Night Here and Good Morning Up There." Interment was at Greenwood Ceemetery, Brownsdale, with Lafayette Lodge A.F. & A.M. in charge of Masonic rites at the graveside. Pallbearers were Howard Hill, Charles Steward, Harold Dahle, Roy VanVleet, Carlisle Madison and Bernard Asper.
