Jerod DeForest Hartson was born July 31, 1851 in Susquehanna county, Pennsylvania and died at the home of his daughter H.W. Meyer, of Charles City, Iowa, February 4, 1930, aged 78 years, 6 months, 3 days.
In early days Mr. Hartson came to Fredricksburg, Iowa and was united in marriage with Josephine Lynes, July 21, 1877. To this union,five children were born, two of whom survive to mourn his loss. Harry of Lisbon, North Dakota and Lulu, Mrs H.W. Meyer,with whom he has made his home for 13 years. Mr. Hartson engaged in farming for many years; was a member of the M.W.A. order and was considered a good neighbor, kind husband and father.
Two brothers and two sisters also survive him, J.B. and Holly Hartson of Milburn, Nebraska; Lucy Culver, Lawrwence, Kansas; Julia Parker, of Hot Springs, Arkansas.
His son Harry, being ill with scarlet fever, could not be present at the funeral.
Funeral services were conducted at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. H.W. Meyer, Thursday afternoon, Feb. 6 The Rev. L.W. Inman, pastor of the First Baptist Church, of Charles City, was the officiating minister. Interment was made in the cemetery at Plainfield, Iowa by the side of his wife who preceded him in death nine years ago.
Appreciatoin of wide circle of relatives and friends were indicated by a most beautiful floral tribute.Mrs. Archie McClain, of the Baptist Church rendered two most beautiful songs.

Blasier and son, Roy, Mrs. Frank Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Lynes, Waterloo, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Will Hartson, Ernie Hartson and Mrs. Geo. Tubbs, Fredricksburg, and Miss Sadie Hartson, Dumont, Iowa.
