Killed Himself.
Charles City, Oct. 5.—A man giving the name of W. H. Hood, and hailing from Lone Rock, Wis., committed suicide at the Brainard house here last night by shooting himself in the right temple. No cause for the act is known.
Hood has friends and relatives at Mitchell and has been visiting there. He came to Charles City Sunday looking for work. Monday he obtained a position with the steel gang on the railroad and began working yesterday. At his boarding house it is said he retired as early as 8 o'clock last night and nothing was seen or heard of him until this morning when he failed to respond for breakfast. On entering his room he was found lying on the bed with a revolver by his side and an ugly hole in his head which bled profusely. His body was still warm. The coroner was called and his jury returned a verdict of suicide. Hood was about 35 years of age. He wore good clothes. A search of his effects was made but nothing found to indicate the cause for his act. In his pocket were found two cents. It is supposed his relatives live at Lone Rock and telegrams have been sent there.
