MRS. ALICE FLEMING HOEL

Born Dec. 20, 1821
Died July 28, 1912

Alice W. Fleming was born Dec.20, 1821, in Butler County, Ohio. At six years of age, she, with her parents, moved to Indiana, where the family lived until she was 18 years of age, then they returned to Ohio and two years later, they moved to Iroquois County, Illinois.

Here March 24, 1845, she was united in marriage to James Hoel. In 1855 they moved to Janesville, Iowa and in 1866 to the old home just north of Rudd, where her husband died, August 1,1889. To this union eight children were born, five of whom are still living. William of Waverly, Iowa; David of New York Mills, Minn., James of Willow Lake, S. Dak., Mrs. Etna Turner, of Osage, and Mrs. Mary Pomeroy of Rudd, Iowa.

For the last eight years she made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Pomeroy, where she passed away, July 28, 1912, age 90 years, 7 months and 8 days.

Of twenty-three grandchildren, eighteen are left to mourn her passing, also thirty great grandchildren and other relatives, besides a host of friends.

For fifty years she had been a faithful member of the Methodist Episcopal church. Also for many years she had been a member and hard worker of the Ladies Aid Society.

The funeral service was held in the Methodist church, Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. conducted by Rev. Henry Allshouse and interment made in Evergreen Cemetery.
