Alice Elaine (Kraft) Duroe, the daughter of Bernard and Shirley (Olson) Kraft, was born on October 11, 1931, in Burlington, Iowa. She received her education in Burlington and graduated from Burlington High School in 1950.

Shortly after graduation, Alice worked for a lawyer in Des Moines where she met Edwin Duroe. They were united in marriage on June 5, 1954, in Des Moines at St. John Catholic Church. The couple made their home in Jefferson, Iowa before moving to Charles City in 1964.

Alice stayed at home raising their five boys, which was a challenge. She then helped Ed in the family car business as the bookkeeper at Duroe’s Inc. for many years until the business was sold. Alice kept up her bookkeeping skills at home until six months ago when her health wouldn’t allow it.

Alice was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church where she was involved in St. Theresa’s Circle for many years (she was very strong in her Catholic faith). She was also a member of the Charles City Library Board, Charles City School Booster Club and PEO.

Alice always supported her boys in all of their sporting events and extracurricular activities. She enjoyed reading, playing bridge, having time with her “Friday Lunch Bunch” for nearly 45 years and loved wintering in Florida for almost 20 years.

Living family members include her husband of 64 years, Ed of Charles City; four sons: Scott (Shelley) Duroe, Steve (Ronnie) Duroe, Brian “B.J.” Duroe (Melissa Boeset) and David (Susan) Duroe; 14 grandchildren: Mark Duroe, Brian Evans, Ashley (Duroe) Olson, Alexandra Duroe, Michael Duroe, Katie Duroe, Jared Duroe, Brett Duroe, Seth Duroe, Chris Mayland, Jason Mayland, Adyson Duroe, Benson Duroe and Olivia Kline; great-grandson, Kadin Olson; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Michael Duroe; granddaughter, Hailey Duroe; sister, LaVar Schmidt and two brothers: Jack and Duane Kraft.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Charles City Public Library.
