MARBLE ROCK - Funeral Services for Richard Ray Wharton, 64, of Marble Rock will be 1:30 p.m., Sunday, February 3, 2019, at Retz Funeral Home, 423 Bradford St. Marble Rock, Iowa. Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery, Marble Rock.

Visitation will be one hour before services at the funeral home on Sunday.

Rick passed away on Tuesday, January 29, 2019, at the Mercy Medical Center in Mason City.

Rick was born on August 8, 1954, in Dubuque, Iowa, to Joyce (Ostrander) LaRue and passed away on Tuesday, January 29, 2019, at the Mercy Medical Center in Mason City. Rick grew up in Dubuque and attended public school.

On July 19, 1975 Rick was united in marriage to Betty Moore. This marriage was blessed with two children. They lived and raised their children in Bristow. Rick drove truck and when his children were grown Betty traveled with him. They were married for 35 years until Betty’s death in 2010.

Rick became disabled and was no longer able to drive truck. Several years ago he moved to Marble Rock and made his home with his daughter and her family.

He enjoyed driving truck, fishing, gardening, and spending time with family.

Rick is survived by his son Rick Wharton of Rockford; daughter Joanne (Jeremiah) Miller, Marble Rock; grandchildren Destiny Wharton (Andrew), Iowa Falls; April Miller (Treven), Ames; Grace and Josh Wharton, Marble Rock; Alex and David Miller, Marble Rock; sister Kitty Rogers, Dubuque; brother Greg (Tina) LaRue, Dubuque; father and mother-in-law Milford (Theresa) Moore, Dubuque; sister-in-law Mary Moore, Dubuque; nieces and nephews: Kenny, Amy, Heather Katzenburger, Chad, Jason LaRue all of Dubuque, Michael Moore, Mason City.

He was preceded in death by his wife Betty Wharton; grandson Derick Wharton; Mother Joyce LaRue; step-father William ‘Bill’ Larue; sisters: Shawn Wharton and Mary LaRue.
