FUNERAL NOTICE--

GREENE, IOWA - Funeral Services for Betty Ann Watkins, 81, of Greene, will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 22, 2018, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Greene with Pastor Daniel Flucke officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Charles City.

Visitation will 4-7 p.m., Friday, September 21, 2018, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Greene.

Betty passed away on Monday, September 17, 2018, at her home in Greene.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to the Betty Watkins Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 219, Greene, Iowa 50636.

Betty Ann Nelson was born June 18, 1937, in Colwell, Iowa, the daughter of Dee B. and Mary (Hennings) Nelson and passed away on Monday, September 17, 2018, at her home in Greene surrounded by her family. She received her education in the public schools of Charles City and graduated from Charles City High School in 1955.

She was united in marriage to Robert Eugene Watkins on April 3, 1955 in Austin, Minnesota. In 1961 they moved to Floyd, Iowa, later moved to a farm house in Clarksville, and ultimately to their home in Greene in 1969. This union was blessed with eight children.

Betty was an active member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Greene where she served on WELCA, helped serve Harvest Meals and made herself available for other projects as needed.

In addition to being a devoted wife and mother Betty worked outside the home; The Corner House, and A & W Root Beer Stand as a cook, Austinson Variety and helped with events at the Round Grove Country Club, was a member of the ladies Auxiliary, and did private catering.

Betty was an accomplished cook and baker, enjoyed sewing and made quilts for all her grandchildren. She did needlepoint, and loved flowers, especially the summer mixes. She traveled to see all of her children and grandchildren in their respective states and even went to Germany. She had a great sense of humor, was mother and then a friend to her children and respected their choices in life. Family meant everything to Betty and she was extremely proud of her children, grand, and great-grandchildren. She treasured the times they were able to be together.

Living family members include her children: Cindy (Earl) Ketchum, Owatonna, MN; Nancy (Tim) Doudell, San Jose, CA; Deb (Jimmy) Bostock, Augusta, GA; Bobbe (Pat) Fitzgerald, E. Hampton, CT; Julie Watkins, Greene, IA; Matt Watkins, Greene, IA; 6 grandchildren: Mary (Mike) Aissen, Christine (Brandon) Johnson, Kelly Doudell, Jeffrey Fitzgerald, Brittany Bostock, Noah Bostock; 4 great-grandchildren: James, Erin and Katelynn Aissen, Audrey Johnson; sister, Delores Fike, Rudd,IA; many friends.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband; two children in infancy, Jeffery and Linda; her parents; three sisters: Emma Byrnes, Nettie Vetter, Barbara Tynan; and a brother, Glen Nelson.
