MASON CITY, IOWA - Marilyn S. Brainerd, 65, of Mason City, died Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

Memorial services will be held at 11 A.M. Monday, September 10, 2018 at the Grace Evangelical Free Church, 440 N. Illinois Ave., with Pastor Scott Davis officiating. Visitation will be held from 3 until 5 P.M. Sunday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.majorericksonfuneralhome.com.

Marilyn S. Brainerd was born and raised by her loving parents with her two siblings in the Mason City area. She graduated from Nora Springs High School in 1971 and then worked as a medical assistant. Her love for that job quickly led to pursuing and completing an Associates Degree in Nursing from NIACC. She got her first nursing job at North Iowa Medical Center and then moved to Mercy North Iowa during the merger. She worked there as a Critical Care nurse and Clinical Leader until 2001. She was a devoted, skilled nurse and everyone loved working with her and respected her greatly.

She met the love of her life, Barrett Brainerd, in October of 1986 and they were married in September of 1987. Marilyn was very passionate about her family. She was a dedicated Wife, Mother, Sister and Aunt. One of her greatest joys was the adoption of their daughter Kim, from Vietnam in 1994. She was a very caring and nurturing person. That also shown through in her love for dogs and for cooking! Cooking was a form of therapy for her and she always felt her best while she was doing it. She loved nothing more than to share meals and treats with those around her.

Marilyn was very active in her local church serving in the music ministry. Music was a very important part of her own personal worship and she loved using her talent to help lead her church family in congregational worship. We know she is in the arms of Jesus, worshipping with her Lord and Savior.

Her family would like to thank all the caring, dedicated hospital staff, and Muse Norris Hospice House for the excellent care she has received over the years.

Left to remember her are her husband, Barrett Brainerd; Daughter, Kim Blackmore (Louis); Mother Dorothy Heinold; Sister, Pat Kammrad (Dick); Brother David Heinold (Linda) and several Nieces and Nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Ronald Heinold.

Memorials may be directed to the Marilyn S. Brainerd memorial fund in care of the family.
