MASON CITY, IOWA - Robert “Bob” LeRoy Engleman, 90, of Mason City passed away Sunday, September 2, 2018, at Good Shepherd Health Center in Mason City.

Private family burial services will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery in Mason City.

Robert “Bob” LeRoy Engleman was born August 25, 1928 to Emmon H. and Hazel V. (Cooper) Engleman in Nora Springs, Iowa. Bob was the eighth of thirteen children; the family resided in Nora Springs until he had completed first grade, then moved to Mason City.

Bob attended Mason City High School through 11th grade. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1948 where he finished his education. In 1952, Bob was drafted and served in the United States Army. He later served with the United States Air Force Reserves.

Bob was united in marriage to Frances E. “DeDe” Smith on July 12, 1951 in Indianapolis, Indiana. The couple made their home in Mason City following Bob's discharge from the Army, and to this union, sons Bruce and Paul were born.

Bob worked as a hired hand on farms during the summers of his youth, at the Sugar Beet plant north of Mason City, Moore's Filling Station and at the Decker packing plant before his time in the service. Following his discharge, he was employed at Mason City Blueprint Company for roughly 10 years. In 1962, Bob began his career at the Mason City Post Office, retiring in 1989. In addition to his full-time career, Bob worked a variety of odd-jobs around Mason City, including time at Masters Chiropractic, Key Wholesale and at Heritage Care Center as a maintenance man.

In earlier years, Bob was known to enjoy snowmobiling and was a member of the Mason City Moose Lodge. During his retirement, Bob enjoyed his daily two-mile walks, tinkering in his garage, rooting for the Twins and Vikings and watching Western movies. He took great pride in maintaining his home and was meticulous about his yard work. He raised a vegetable garden for years. He and DeDe spent their winters in Arizona with their son Paul for 16 years.

Bob was a man of few words, he quietly led by example. His ambition and disciplined work ethic are an inspiration to his family and friends.

Left to cherish Bob's memory are his wife, Frances “DeDe” Engleman of Mason City; two sons, Bruce (Glennys) Engleman of Mason City and Paul Engleman of Phoenix, Arizona; two granddaughters, Brianne (Michael) Ewing of Clarion, Iowa and Bobbi (Brent) Burg of Town of Middleton, Wisconsin; great-grandson Ethan Burg; sister Donna Knudson of Moline, Illinois; brother Jack Engleman of Morris, Illinois; along with many extended family members and friends.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, and ten siblings, Ila, Harrison “Harry”, Nellie, Dorothy, Donald, Emmon, Jr. “Dewey”, Edna, Mary Lou, Hazel “Susie” and Richard.
