Jean was born on August 25, 1936 to Chester and Alpha (Thorson) Braund on the family farm outside of Kiester, Minnesota.
Jean was confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Kiester in June, 1951 and graduated from Kiester High School in June, 1954. Jean married Wayne Ellertson on July 10, 1954 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Kiester. One of her fondest memories was riding the El Capitan train from Minnesota to Long Beach, California where Wayne was stationed in the Navy.
Jean was an avid golfer, winning several Charles City Club women's championships and achieving the elusive hole in one on two occasions. Wayne and Jean could often be found dancing the night away at the Charles City Elks and enjoyed spending the past 25 winters in Sarasota, Florida.
She will be remembered for her laugh, her ability to find the positive in every situation, and her fierce love and pride in her family. Everyone who knew Jean knows how much she adored all of her family members. Jean helped raise her daughters into strong women who in turn raised strong grandchildren who will follow in her footsteps.
She was small but MIGHTY.
Jean embraced a complete faith in God and her Lutheran upbringing. She did not take for granted the preciousness of her life and she abundantly lived it.
Jean is survived by her husband of 64 years Wayne; daughters Julie (Mark) Morris of Fort Collins, Colorado, Lori (Steve) Kreinbring of Omaha, Nebraska and Kathy (Bob) Whiteside of West Branch, Iowa; grandchildren; Emily (Robert) Coppola, Kevin (Jax) Amos, Kyle Kreinbring, Molly (Shawn) Ostendorf, and Annie Whiteside; brother Keith, (Alice) Braund; sister, Lynn (John) Wirkkala; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
