A gathering of family and friends will be one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at Hauser Funeral Home

Ellen A. Meyer, age 103, of Charles City was called home on Thursday, March 15, 2018.

A funeral service for Ellen Meyer will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 21, 2018, at Hauser Funeral Home with Pastor Russ Leeper of Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Charles City officiating. Burial will be at Sunnyside Memory Gardens in Charles City.

A gathering of family and friends will be one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.

Ellen A. Meyer was born on January 15, 1915 to Mikkel and Caroline Rygh in Winnebago County, Iowa. She always had many stories to tell of farm life, her nursing experience, and the Gilbert Hotel which her husband John Meyer and she ran for 27 years. She loved her family, Norwegian heritage, and angel food cake.

Surviving is her granddaughter, Lisa McLay and her husband Jerry, grandson, Erik Wik and his wife Hnou-lay, grandchildren Angela Wilson, Josh McLay and his wife Kasha, Lydia McLay, Noah McLay, Sophie, Ethan and Scarlett Wik, great grandchildren, Paul, Mac and Lynden Wilson, Emma, Addison and Madden McLay, daughter in law, Marlene Wik and sister Florence Wiskocil.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Telford Wik and John Meyer, son Thomas, grandson Tommy Jr., and siblings Jens, Jim, Pearl, Marlin, and Marcella.

The family also wants to extend our appreciation to the Ninth St. Chautauqua Guest Home for taking excellent care of Ellen for the past nine years.
