Robert “Bob” Smith, 77, of Charles City, passed away Saturday, January 27, 2018 at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa in Mason City.

A funeral service for Robert Smith will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 1, 2018 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Charles City with Pastor Jim Beranek officiating. Inurnment will take place at a later date.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 with a Masonic Service starting at 7:00 p.m. at Hauser Funeral Home. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service on Thursday at Trinity United Methodist Church.

Robert “Bob” Lewis Smith, the son of Lewis and Thelma (Seaman) Smith, was born on December 28, 1940 in Belmond, Iowa. Bob graduated from Northwood Kensett High School in 1959. He then attended Iowa State and graduated from Morningside College in December of 1963. Bob was united in marriage to Geneva McComb on June 20, 1964 in Randalia, Iowa at the Randalia Methodist Church.

Bob worked for White Farm and then later for the United States Postal Service. He was a member of the Elks Lodge #418 Charles City, St. Charles Lodge #141 Charles City, Benevolence Lodge #46 Mason City, Antioch Commandery Mason City, Des Moines Valley Scottish Rite, Charles Clyde Hunt #42 KYCH, Mason City Order of Eastern Star, Grand Commandery of Iowa (151st Grand Commander), Red Cross of Constantine, Holy Royal Arch Knight Templar Priests, Order of Purple Cross, Knight Templar Cross of Honor, and Holy Order of High Priesthood.

Bob enjoyed running, collecting coins, wood working, cooking and reading books (especially westerns and political dramas). He liked trains and traveling. He was also an avid football fan.

Living family members include his wife, Geneva “Genni” Smith; two sons: Chris (Ellen) Smith of Winston Salem, North Carolina and Dan (Kelsey) Smith of Kalamazoo, Michigan; grandchildren: Olivia, Keira, and Harper; and sister-in-law, Rosie Quass of Fredricka, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Thelma Smith.
