James Arthur 'Jim' Duffield

CHARLES CITY, IOWA - Funeral services for James Duffield, 87, of Charles City, and formerly of Greene, will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, January 12, 2018, at the Church of Christ, 302 S. Elizabeth Street, Clarksville with Pastor Val Swinton officiating. Burial is in Rose Hill Cemetery, Greene, with Military Rites conducted by Tack-Barnett Post 268 American Legion of Greene.

Visitation will be 4-6:30 p.m., Thursday, with a Prayer Service at 6:30 p.m., at Retz Funeral Home, 519 N. First St. Greene and will continue one hour before services at the church.

Jim died Sunday, Jan. 7, at the Floyd County Medical Center. Charles City, Iowa.

Memorials may be directed to the family at P.O. Box 313 Rockford, Iowa 50468-0313.

James Duffield - Charles City

Funeral services for James Duffield, 87, of Charles City, formerly of Greene, will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, January 12, 2018, at the Church of Christ, 302 S. Jim was born March 22, 1930, in Melrose, Wisconsin. He was the son of Loran and Kathryn (Rand) Duffield and died Sunday, Jan. 7, at the Floyd County Medical Center, Charles City, Iowa.

On September 15, 1958, Jim married Carol JoAnn “Joanie” Figgins, in Canton, South Dakota. He lost his beloved Joanie in 2006. On March 21, 2009, Jim married Carol Jean “Jean” Ferch whom he cherished until his death.

Jim received his education in the rural Bristow schools. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in post World War II Germany. He was a devoted, lifetime member of the VFW. Jim was an over-the-road truck driver for Murphy Trucking, Shippers Service, Diversified Carriers Inc., trucker of the year for Dart Transit, and ended his career at Norseman Trucking. During his 50-year career he drove more than 6,000,000 miles.

His interests included listening to and dancing to country and western music. Finally, in his eighties he tried learning to play guitar. He had been known to sing on stage with his favorite band, Endless Summer, at the Elks Club where he was also a member. Jim was a devoted family man.

Jim is survived by: his wife Jean; three sons, Terry Taylor of Cedar Falls, Del Duffield of Charles City, David (Debra) Duffield of El Cajon, CA; a daughter, Connie (Dan) Glandon of Charles City; a stepson Timothy (Kimmy) Kernes of Winterset; two stepdaughters, Laurie Pederson (fiancé Timothy Betts) of Charles City and Orchard, and Kathleen Wray (Doug Probst) of Creston; a sister-in-law, Betty Pennington of Mason City; six grandchildren, Cody Duffield, Lindsey (Jarrod) Tell, Joshua Duffield, Cassandra Glandon, Jesse Duffield, Jason Glandon; and one great-granddaughter, Lynnlee Tell, nine step grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joanie Duffield; his parents; son, Douglas James Duffield; his brother, Don Duffield; two sisters Lorraine Sessler, Martha Starkey; and two stepsons, Bob Kernes and Patrick Kernes.
