Death: November 27, 2017William "Bill" Boss, 88, of Charles City, Iowa, passed away Monday, November 27, 2017, at UnityPoint Health-Allen Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa, surrounded by his family.
A funeral Mass for Bill Boss will be held Friday, December 1, 2017, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City with Reverend Gary Mayer celebrating the Mass. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Alta Vista.
Visitation will be at Hauser Funeral Home from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, November 30, 2017, with a Scripture Service beginning at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue one prior to the funeral Mass at the church on Friday.
William Fredrick Boss, the son of Robert and Bonnie (Hamilton) Boss, was born October 26, 1929, in West Plains, Missouri. As an infant, Bill's family moved to Central Iowa where he spent most of his childhood. In 1948, his family moved to Alta Vista and Bill graduated from Alta Vista High School in 1949.
Bill was drafted into the United States Army in 1951, and proudly served his country for two years during the Korean War.
On December 29, 1954, he was united in marriage to Lola Kolbet at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Alta Vista. The couple made their home in Alta Vista where Bill farmed for 11 years and worked at Oliver/White Farm in Charles City. In 1970, they moved to Camanche, Iowa for employment. Bill worked at Chemplex/LyondellBasell until his retirement and he and Lola later returned to Charles City.
Bill was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City, Knights of Columbus and a lifetime member of the Alta Vista VFW. He enjoyed golfing, reading, woodworking, playing cards and traveling all 50 states. Bill loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Living family members include his wife of almost 63 years, Lola of Charles City; children: John (Sandy) Boss of Waterloo, Jeff (Carrol) Boss of Westminster, Colorado, Joe (Jill) Boss of Camanche, Janelle (Randy) Shores of Covington, Georgia and Jason (Amy) Boss of Mohnton, Pennsylvania; nine grandchildren: Ryan (Dolly) Boss, Nathan (Michelle) Boss, Matthew (Emily) Boss, Sarah Boss, Randy Shores, Jordan Newsome (Audie Wilcox), Chelsea Shores, Josiane (Josh) Mongillo and Cassie Boss; five great-grandchildren: Alexis, Dominic, Sophie, Kenna and Paisley; sister, Florence Krieger of North Carolina; two brothers: Robert (Patricia) Boss of California and Donald (Florence) Boss of Nashua; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and seven siblings.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations in Bill's name to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus #1409 or a charity of the donor's choice.
