Source: A newspaper clipping among the Birkholz family papers. A copy of the clipping was included in a family scrapbook compiled by Carol Spicer, of Thompson, North Dakota in 2008. Handwritten on the clipping is the date September 30, 1957. It was likely published in a local newspaper in Charles City, Iowa.

The photo was also in same scrapbook, annotated in handwriting “John & Annie Hartz” and was probably taken for their wedding on March 12, 1902 in St. Charles Township, Floyd County, Iowa.

Note: Anna Hartz is in the daughter of William Birkholz and is in the family portrait in Album 5 posted in the Floyd County pictures on this website. http://iagenweb.org/floyd/Photos/pic5/birkholz_william_family1903.htm
