HEART ATTACK CAUSES DEATH OF WOMAN, 81

CHARLES CITY, IOWA – Funeral services for Mrs. Anna Stoecker, 81, will be held Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Hauser funeral home, the Rev. James K. Delahooke, Methodist pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Riverside cemetery.

Coroner Carl Hauser reported Sunday that death was due to a heart attack and not a fall down the stairway to the basement of her home at 701 S. Johnson Street Saturday as at first reported.

Further investigation revealed that she was in the act of starting a fire using paper and wood from a wash boiler in the basement. In so doing, she had struck a match which accidentally ignited the contents of the boiler.

Repeated trips up and down the stairway with water from the kitchen had brought about exhaustion. One finger was badly cut.

Mrs. Stoecker, the widow of John C. Stoecker, lived alone. She is survived by a sister, Miss Lucy Maier, of Rockford.
