NORA SPRINGS, IOWA - Arthur William Rethamel, 87, of Nora Springs passed away on Thursday, April 27, 2017, at the Muse Norris Inpatient Unit Hospice of North Iowa in Mason City.

A private family inurnment will be held at a later date in Evergreen Cemetery, rural Rudd.

The family would like to thank the staff at Hospice of North Iowa for the care given to Arthur, and suggest memorials be directed to Muse Norris Inpatient Unit Hospice of North Iowa, 232 Second St. S.E., Mason City, IA 50401.

Arthur W. Rethamel was born January 1, 1930, to Earl and Freda (Bell) Rethamel in Cresco, Iowa. On September 5, 1948, he married Virginia Brierly at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. To this marriage two sons were born, Danny and Donald. After Virginia’s death in 1995, Arthur married Mary Reynolds. Arthur was a skilled carpenter; he started and owned Rethamel Construction in Nora Springs which has now been passed down to his sons.

Arthur enjoyed collecting coins and had many in his collection. He was a loving husband, father, friend and grandfather and loved spending time with his family. Arthur was a member of First United Methodist Church in Nora Springs.

Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Don (Connie) Rethamel and Dan Rethamel, both of Nora Springs; grandchildren, JoDee Rethamel of Mason City, Julie Rethamel of Mason City, Jamie (Annie) Rethamel of Clear Lake, Robin (Dustin) Davis of Nora Springs, and Avery (Nathan) Ten-Haken of Joice; great-grandchildren, Zach, Madison, Dylan, Christina, Laci (Paul), Calyx, Carsyn, Garrett, Whitney, Kessa, and Kegan; great-great-grandchildren, Connor, Hunntor, Elijah, Mari, and Carson; a very special companion, his dog Bentley the Bear; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

Arthur was preceded in death by his parents; siblings: Gordon, Roland, Bonnie, Betty, and Margaret; his first wife Virginia; and his second wife Mary.
