Irma Kay, 97, of Edgewood, passed away Tuesday, January 3, 2017, at the Edgewood Convalescent Home in Edgewood.

A funeral service for Irma will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 7, 2017, at Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City. Pastor Paul Phillips from Gospel Lighthouse Church in Floyd will officiate. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Charles City.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service at the funeral home on Saturday.

Irma Elizabeth (Bucknell) Kay was born January 25, 1919 to Arthur and Anna (Meek) Bucknell in Floyd, Iowa. Irma was a member of the first class to graduate from the new Charles City High School in 1936. She taught at country school for a few years, and also worked as a cook in a nursing home for a number of years. Irma began teaching herself to play piano at a young age and enjoyed it for her whole life; playing in a total of 17 different bands. She also enjoyed dancing, gardening, and spoiling her kids. She was a member of the Methodist Church, Navy Mothers, PTA, Eagles Club and V.F.W Auxiliary.

Irma is survived by her sons: Don (Nancy) Trainer of Manchester, and Tom (Rachel) Trainer of Charles City; 12 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; many great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sons: Ted Trainer and Dick Trainer; daughter-in-law: Janet Trainer; two granddaughters: Kelli Trainer, and Holly Hamm; two brothers and four sisters.
