Raymond Phillip "Ray" Wood was born April 2, 1936 in Viroqua, Wisconsin to parents Stanley and Ethel (Sherrick) Wood. He was the fourth of twelve children. Ray lived in the Viroqua area until he enlisted in the Army in 1954 and served during the Korean War stationed in Verdun, France. It was in Verdun, on a blind date, that met his wife, Pierrette Drouet. Unable to pronounce Pierrette, Raymond fondly nicknamed his bride-to-be "Pat". Ray and Pat were married April 6th, 1957 in Verdun and returned to the United States later that year. They eventually settled in Charles City in 1959 where they raised three children. Ray worked at Oliver and White Farm for 34 years where he poured iron in the foundry. After the factory closed he then worked for several years at Solvay. In addition, Ray carried on a tradition of fixing lawnmowers started by his uncle, Dallas Wood. Ray was known to be a hard worker and rarely missed a day of work.

Ray is will be missed by his wife, Pat, of 59 years; his three children, Marian (Werner) Ennen of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, Dan (Lois) Wood of Tacoma, Washington, and Brigitte (Joe) Van Nice of Grundy Center, Iowa; his cherished grandchildren, Kayli and Chelsea Ennen, Danyel Wood, Josie, Katie, Landon, Owen, Jacob and Evie Van Nice. He is survived by siblings, Karen Durnel of Canton, Georgia, Carol Wilson and Tim Wood of Waterloo, IA. Ray also has a surviving aunt, Hannah Wood, of Charles City. Ray is also survived by many, many nieces, nephews and cousins in the United States and in France.

In Heaven, Ray follows his parents, Stanley and Ethel Wood; his in-laws, Louis and Margueritte Feree and Alphonse Drouet; siblings, Vivian, Ardith, Mildred, Donna, Janice, Barbara, Robert, and Sharon.

Ray was a member of the Knight of Columbus and a proud lifetime member of the VFW. Ray waited a long time to have grandchildren, but when he did he was blessed with nine who were his greatest joy.

A special thank you is extended to the wonderful staff at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital and to Dr. Schrodt and Dr. Royer for their exceptional care. Thank you to family and friends who were supportive during Ray's illness.

In lieu of flowers, gifts may be directed to the family and a memorial will be established in his honor.

Ray will be deeply missed but never forgotten by his family. We rejoice in knowing Ray is watching over us all from heaven as he rests in peace with the Good Lord above.
