Melissa Sue DeMerritt, 41, of Charles City, passed away at her home on October 10, 2016.

A funeral service for Melissa will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at Hauser Funeral Home. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Charles City, Iowa.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM to the start of the service on Tuesday at the funeral home.

She resided in Reading, Pennsylvania from birth to 18 years of age, prior to moving to Charles City. She finished her education at Charles City High School, which she graduated from in 1993.

Some of her special interests were computer games and Facebooking. She also liked cartoons. She loved all animals, especially dogs and cats. She collected many different things, including unicorns, key chains, Pokemon cards, white tigers and wrestling memorabilia.

Those left to cherish her memory are her mother: Gladys Kleman of Charles City; step-father: Randy Bill Sr. of Charles City; step-mother Christine DeMerritt of Reading Pennsylvania; her husband, John Thornton of Charles City; brother: Theodore (Carol) Kleman of Rockford; half-sister: Tina Kleman of Reading, Pennsylvania; and two half-brothers: Bobby Kleman and Willie Kleman of Reading, Pennsylvania.

She was preceded in death by her father, Tom DeMerritt and infant son Shayne Welsh.
