CHARLES CITY, IOWA — Andrea Rae DeVore, 74, of Charles City, Iowa, died Monday, September 26, 2016, at Mayo Clinic Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. with a one hour prior visitation on Friday, Sept. 30, at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Charles City. Pastor Bill Odermann will be officiating.
Interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery in Charles City.
A visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 29, in the Fellowship Hall at St. John’s.

Andrea Rae DeVore, 74, of Charles City, Iowa, died Monday, September 26, 2016 at Mayo Clinic Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.
Visitation will be held from 4 P.M. - 7 P.M. on Thursday, September 29, 2016 in the Parish Hall at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 200 S. Main St, Charles City, Iowa. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. with visitation one hour prior to the service on Friday, September 30, 2016 at St. John. Pastor Bill Odermann will be officiating. Interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery in Charles City.
Andrea was born on November 24, 1941 in Charles City to Gilbert Louis Otto Bartman and Delores Caroline (Dumont) Bartman. She attended the Charles City Community School District and Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa. On October 8, 1966 she was united in marriage with James DeVore. The couple resided in Charles City their entire life and had two children. Andrea’s passion in life was music. She began playing the organ at St. John in 10th grade and played there a total of 56 years.
She was the Director of Music and organist for 46 of those years. She accompanied thousands of weddings and funerals for the community. She was appointed business director of St. John in 1997 and retired from that position in 2016. Andrea was a charter member of the Charles City Singers as accompanist. She served on the Charles City Board of Education for six years, was a member of the City Improvement Association, and helped with St. John church circles.
She thoroughly enjoyed spending time with a local coffee group. Her love of music and faith was very profound and so was the love for her family. She enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s activities and also cooking and quilting with her grandchildren. Andrea will be missed by her many friends in the community as well as her family who loved her dearly.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 50 years, James Dale DeVore of Charles City; son, Kurt M.J. (Gretchen) DeVore of Decorah, IA and their children: Timothy A.K., Michael A.K., Zachary C.K., Maxwell B.K. and Joseph G.K.; and son, Justin M.T. (Marcia) DeVore of Charles City, IA and their children: Hannah R.C. and Jonah D.J.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gilbert and Delores Bartman, and grandparents, Elsie and Ralph Dumont.
